![]() One item I have on all my vehicles is a grille guard. I like the looks and they are good for protecting from low impact hits. Initially I wasn't sure if I would put one on the Sequoia. All the grille guards I found required the guard to be tilted forward when opening the hood. The center grille on the Sequoia is connected to the hood and makes a wide arc as the hood goes up. I wasn't excited about loosening the bumper to open the hood. Eventually I decided to give it a try. I ordered a Hunter Premium grille (P/N GT-514) from Amazon. If I didn't like it I could send it back. My first impression wasn't good. On the Hunter website it states their products are made in Texas. The box I received said "Made in China". The instructions were very vague and didn't even cover all the parts in the kit. That said, the grille was easy to install. It's not rocket science. After installing the grille guard I am happy with it. I was able to install it so that the hood can be opened without tilting the guard. I did this by making sure the bottom brackets were mounted as far forward as they could be, and then positioning the grille guard so the hood cleared.
![]() The grille clears by about a 1/4". No need to tilt the grille guard.
![]() Side view. The grille guard came with upper mounting braces. According to the instructions they were supposed to go over the bumper and under the grille. That seemed kind of sketchy itself, but there was no place to bolt them to behind the grille. I attached the grille guard using only the bottom brackets. It was firm but not rock solid like a grille guard should be.
![]() I did some looking and there is a steel square bumper behind the fascia. If I cut a slot in the bottom grille spacing the bracket could mount flush on top of this bumper. Drilling the holes in the grille guard uprights was a bear! Make sure you have some sharp carbide bits.
![]() I attached the brackets to the bumper with some large self-tapping screws. Now the grille guard is rock solid like it should be. I'm not sure why they didn't design the grille guard to attach here in the first place. I'm not a big fan of the parts that cover the headlights so I left them off.
