The first step to modifying the radio is to remove the cover (5 screws).
This reveals the circuit board.
As we look closer we can see the four jumpers. They are located to the right of the top of the white ribbon cable.
A closeup of the four jumpers. The jumper to modify is JP11...the third from the left. Carefully remove the solder jumper. Simultaneously hold down the 'MHZ', 'A/N', and 'D/MR' keys upon power-up to reset the processor. Now the radio will transmit from 134-174MHz.
The radio programming cable connects to the computer serial port and the radio microphone jack.
The Windows-based radio programming software is straightforward...if you read the instructions first.
